Eire Óg 2-2 Carryduff 4-10
Eire Óg v Carryduff Under 9 - Sat 22 June Woodlands
Due to soccer tournament Eire Óg fielded a very young side against what was a very well organised and fast Carryduff side. With only 3 players aged 9 playing and the rest aged 8 the young Ógs faced an up hill task against a much bigger opposition. However undaunted they played extremely well in the first half and ensured that despite early Carryduff domination they registered some important scores. In midfield, Steven McGuigan and Josh Murray were outstanding and Josh was one of the best players in the pitch. He constantly won a lot of ball around the middle of the park and delivered it early to the full forward line where Paul Smith, Hugh Doran and Daniel worked well together to create some good scores. With the defence playing particularly well, where Steven Carson was sweeping up all the loose ball the Ógs managed to contain keep Carryduff scores to a minimum. At half time the Ógs were trailing by 3 points. However playing on big pitch and the heavy conditions underfoot was starting to take its toll and the second half saw Carryduff completely dominate, with Pete McGoran son of Eire Óg veteran Alec starring for the County Down side. Despite the best efforts of Mattie Keenan and Kevin McKenna in defence Carryduff forwards began to run riot and score at will. At midfield Aidan McGarrity and Josh Murray continued to battle hard and by playing the ball first time were able to set up a couple of scores for Oran McMahon who along with David Fitzpatrick played their hearts out and were unlucky not to get some further scores.
Best for the Ogs were Mattie Keenan, Kevin McKenna and Steven Carson in defence, Josh Murray in midfield, Aidan McGarrity and Oran McMahon in attack.
